It doesn't buzz.It tells you.

CHKT plays a sound, waits for it to finish, then speaks your reminder out loud, and keeps going until you answer. No account, nothing to sign up for, and it can work with your calendar in both directions.

A working demo, not a video. The tone is generated in your browser as it plays, and the voice is a recording of the app itself.

Built for the reminders you cannot afford to miss.

Sound first, then the words

The two never talk over each other. Pick per reminder:

  • BOTHA sound, then your reminder spoken aloud
  • VOICEJust the voice, no ding in front of it
  • NOTIFYA sound and a banner, nothing spoken

It doesn't give up after one go

Re-alert every 1, 2 or 5 minutes until you press Done, with an automatic stop from 15 minutes to 2 hours so it never nags into the night. Snooze lengths are chosen when the alert fires, not when you set it.

On your calendar, both ways

Every event on your calendar becomes a reminder that speaks and repeats. Only the reminders you tag #cal are written back, so your daily ones stay out of your diary.

Put one off without moving the rest

Hold a reminder to push that one back 30 minutes, an hour or two hours, or skip it entirely. A repeat keeps its normal time for every time after.

Every rhythm you actually use

Daily, chosen weekdays, monthly by date or last day, yearly, or any interval down to the minute.

Alarms that survive the OS

Exact alarms through Doze and battery saver, full-screen over the lock screen, re-armed after a reboot.

Tap the widget and say it

"Remind me at 2pm to feed the cat." CHKT turns that into a reminder on the phone itself, using whichever speech recogniser you have installed.

A schedule for CHKT itself

Overnight, reminders still arrive and still count. They just don't ring, speak or vibrate.

Arriving, or leaving

Location reminders through Android's own proximity services, on the device rather than anywhere else.

Install it, and it works. The calendar is optional.

  1. Install the app. It is not on Google Play yet, so it comes from the download page, easiest through Obtainium, which keeps it up to date. Nothing else is needed: no account, no server, no signing up.
  2. Let it wake the screen. Android asks about alarms and full-screen alerts the first time you run it. Say yes, or a reminder can only arrive as a quiet notification.
  3. Set its battery use to unrestricted in the phone's own settings, so Android doesn't hold reminders back.
  4. Connect a calendar, if you want one. Point it at your ordinary calendar. Everything on it becomes a reminder, and only reminders you tag #cal are written back to it. How that works.
Everything stays on the phoneNo account, no server, no cloud. Reminders live in the app and nowhere else unless you connect a calendar yourself.
Two ways to a calendarThrough a calendar already on the phone, or by talking CalDAV to your calendar service directly. Pick one.
You choose what goes backEvery event becomes a reminder. Only reminders tagged #cal become events, so your diary stays yours.

Questions people ask before installing

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to run. CHKT works on its own, completely offline, and everything is kept on the phone. Connecting a calendar is optional and entirely up to you.

Where do the ads appear?

One banner, at the foot of the reminder list, and nowhere else. Never on an alert: that screen appears over your lock screen without being asked for, and an advert next to Done at three in the morning is nobody's idea of useful. GBP 2.99 a year removes the banner.

What does CHKT cost?

CHKT is free, with one small banner at the foot of the reminder list. If you would rather not see it, GBP 2.99 a year removes it. That is the only thing there is to buy: no feature is held back and nothing else is charged for.

Which voice reads the reminders out?

Whichever text-to-speech engine is installed on your phone, because CHKT bundles no voice of its own. If it finds no engine at all, it points you at SherpaTTS, a free offline engine on F-Droid.

Will it actually wake me up?

CHKT schedules alerts the way an alarm clock does, so they fire on time through Doze and battery saver rather than waiting for the phone to wake. The alert shows full screen over the lock screen, survives a reboot, and repeats until you answer it.

Can I see reminders in my normal calendar app?

Yes, and it works both ways, but not symmetrically. Every event on the calendar you connect becomes a reminder that speaks and repeats. Going the other way, only the reminders you tag #cal are written out as events, so a daily "take my pills" stays on the phone instead of cluttering your diary. That is what lets you use your normal calendar rather than a second one. The help page explains it.
